Spectacular Double Clip Brooch with 213 Diamonds – Approx. 11.80 ct, Platinum, 1950s–1960s

An exceptional, monumental Double Clip brooch from the 1950s–1960s, crafted primarily from platinum and set with no fewer than 213 diamonds with a combined weight of approximately 11.80 ct. Measuring 7.5 × 5 cm and weighing 47.73 g, it is an impressive example of fine mid-20th-century jewellery, combining a bold scale with exceptionally precise craftsmanship.

The brooch is composed of two symmetrical, strongly dimensional elements reminiscent of stylised plumes or spreading floral forms. Flowing platinum lines are almost entirely pavé-set with diamonds, while numerous individual stones positioned along delicate branches and within the lower cascading sections lend the composition a sense of lightness and movement. Despite its substantial dimensions, the openwork construction allows light to pass freely through the design.

The brooch is set with 213 diamonds in brilliant and simplified cuts, with a combined weight of approximately 11.80 ct. The diamonds are graded G–I colour and VS–SI clarity. The variation in stone sizes and their carefully considered arrangement creates a graduated play of brilliance and further enhances the three-dimensional character of the composition.

The Double Clip construction is particularly noteworthy. The brooch consists of two independent clips which, when mounted onto a dedicated framework, form one large and highly impressive brooch. When separated, the individual elements can be worn independently as clips. This characteristic solution, frequently found in sophisticated 20th-century jewellery, allowed the same jewel to be worn in different ways and required exceptional precision from the jeweller in both the design and execution of the mechanism.

The principal body is crafted from platinum, while the fastening component is made of 585 gold. The elaborate construction visible from the reverse reveals the extent of the craftsmanship involved: numerous settings, openwork sections and the system joining the two clips form a technically complex whole.

This is collectible jewellery with a distinctly impressive character. More than 11 carats of diamonds, a monumental form, substantial dimensions and the versatile Double Clip construction make it not only a striking brooch but also an intriguing example of fine jewellery craftsmanship from the 1950s and 1960s.
